As business owners and entrepreneurs we make important decisions every day: how we spend our time, which clients to focus on, how to raise funds for a particular project. We may even choose whether we go into the office when sun is shining and we convince ourselves we need our batteries recharging? Our decisions can be influenced by the way we feel, what mood we are in or based on what is expected of us. Many of our decisions are reacting to circumstances around us and some of our decisions are pro-active and follow a pre-determined strategy. The question is ‘how can we balance our decision making between the head and the heart’?
My experience of running an opera company is like owning a football club; it takes considerable amounts of passion and energy to drive, but a clarity of thought and balance that in the case of Opera Anywhere, could only be achieved by appointing a board of non-executive directors to create a team… and a series of brakes!

From humble beginnings, I had been working my socks off, striving to make my way up the sales career ladder. Reaching a peak in 1999 whilst working with Lotus Development I found myself attending a Stephen Covey training course, an in-depth study of ‘The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People’. I had only got to the 2nd habit, ‘Begin With The End In Mind’, when I realised I was never ever going to be satisfied with the constant struggle to follow my previously chosen materialistic based lifestyle.
I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams that I would take to the stage and form an opera company!
